Glentoran vs North Belfast |
|
The first match to be played in the GB Cup was a cracker!
Both teams put up a brilliant show for Under 10's football and all players should be proud of their commitment with neither team deserving to lose. The play and score see-sawed throughout the game and at no time did anyone give an inch or appear to throw the towel in.
This game had it all with end to end attacking matched with superb defending. After normal time it was stalemate.. after extra time it was still a stalemate at 2-2.
A penalty shoot out was the deciding factor with Glentoran winning the game 5-2.
Commiserations to North Belfast who put up a superb show and all the players from both teams did their clubs proud.
Good luck to Glentoran in the next round! |

It may only be February but due to a new sponsorship deal and the commitments needed to be given to the new sponsor, next season we must close all league applications the last week of July (or earlier once numbers are met) with no exceptions.
Clubs are reminded that registrations will open the first week of April for Under 10 and also a new Under 11 league, at present we have enough teams that have shown pre season interest to ensure the under 11's league will commence next season.
All existing GBCYL Clubs will have a 2 week preferential lead in period after which it will based on a first come first served basis. Therefore it may be prudent for exisiting coaches to advise their 2001 coaches within their own club that if they are wishing to continue within the GBCYL. They also are welcome to come along to any of the coaches/managers meetings leading up to the registrations window.
Not probably, we are the 'Best' League in the country! |

The GBL wish to congratulate Billy McCory on receiving the MBE in the New Year's Honours list.
He can conjure up heroes, make dreams come true and shine light into dark corners... and he has been doing it for so long now, it has become a way of life.
Billy started fundraising to help youngsters way back in the early 80s, Since then he's lost count of the number of children and young people whose dreams have come true through Shine A Light.
Billy has a way with people. A way of urging them to pull out all the stops, to go that extra mile and commit to something simple that means everything to a stranger. It all started with a bit of friendly banter over football with a seriously ill young patient Billy spotted while visiting a friend in hospital. The lad was a Liverpool supporter and Billy, a fervent Man United man, noticed how just talking about his soccer heroes lifted the ailing boy's spirits and made his eyes light up. Sadly, the youngster didn't pull through. But their chats together gave Billy the seed of an idea to help give others a dream to cling to. The idea was simple: something special to look forward to can throw light and hope into the darkest journey.

To help teams reduce their impact on other teams with regards to high scoring the committee decided that roll on roll of substitutes will revert back to it's previous meaning in that players previously substituted in game can be brought back on later in the same game.
This rule has been updated. |
